Exotic Shorthair

The cat that resembles a short-haired cat Persian

The Exotic Shorthair cat breed was created to be a shorthaired version of the Persian. Because of the popularity of the Persian cat, this was done in secret in the late 1950s.

It was intended for this crossbreeding to result in an American Shorthair cat with a better body type and stunning silver Persian coloring. American Shorthair breeders objected to any American Shorthair cats that displayed symptoms of hybridization because they felt that their breed had been unfairly mixed with the Persian.

The Exotic Shorthair was officially recognized as a separate breed in 1967. The Exotic is another name for this feline.

Features

With the exception of its lack of lengthy fur, the Exotic Shorthair resembles a Persian cat in many aspects. This cat has short legs, thick bones, and a well rounded middle.

The head is large and round, with a soft, sweet expression. The ears are small and have a round tip, whereas the eyes are large, round, and full. The color of the eyes is determined by the color of the coat.

The short tail of the Exotic Shorthair is proportional to the length of his body. The paws have broad, rounded tips.

The dense, fluffy, and velvety coat is medium in length. It is distinctive due to its rich, thick undercoat. The colors and patterns resemble those of a Persian cat. An exotic shorthair with a pointed pattern resembles a Himalayan shorthair.

Exotic Shorthair adults often weigh between 3.5 and 6kg.

The lifespan of an Exotic Shorthair cat is 12 –14 years.

Personality

The Exotic Shorthair is a fun-loving breed. He is not as relaxed and mellow as the Persian cat. However, their personalities are similar in other ways.

The Exotic can be affectionate, peaceful, kind, dependable, sweet, and devoted. This cat will follow his human friend from room to room because he is curious about what he is doing.

This cat gets along well with other pets and children. He dislikes being left alone because he can be a lap cat, loving hugs and purring away. He can live in both an apartment and a house with a yard.

The exuberant Exotic Shorthair is an excellent mouse hunter.

Care

In comparison to the Persian, the Exotic Shorthair is a low-maintenance cat. Brushing and combing once a week is required to reduce shedding and remove dead hair. Bathing the Exotic may help wash away dead hair, dirt, and dander during seasonal shedding.

Wiping the face clean is necessary to prevent unsightly staining. This is especially important around the eyes.

Cleaning the ears on a regular basis will keep mites and infections at bay. A veterinarian should be consulted if there is any frantic scratching or redness.

The Exotic can maintain his claws sharp by using a cat scratching post. He merely has to be trimmed to avoid becoming tangled in the carpet or furniture.

The "short-faced Persian" has a propensity to put on weight easily, so it's crucial to watch what they eat and how active they are to keep their weight in check.
